Time out

Well this is it i guess.

I don't want to call it the end of my pokercareer but for sure it's a big time out.

Work and kid taking too much time ( quality time though ) to play serious poker.

I never have been the guy to play one game or so , i always needed to play 3 - 4 hour sessions 6 - 9 tabling or i didn't find amusement in it.

since i don't have the time to do this anymore i'm having a real time out.

Pokerstars decision to not longer let Belgian players cash their FFP points didn't do good either. 0 % Rakeback isn't really what i am looking for ...

Maybe in a few months the need to play comes back, if it doesn't i don't mind. i had a good time playing, made a lot of money from a nice hobby.

But now it's time to move on !!!

Big changes in poker

Hello all,

Just a quick word on recent events in Poker.

First there was Black Friday, on which i don't need to explain alot as all of you what happened then. Nonetheless i would like to say that it's not the first action taken by a country on poker. Look what France did, Italy .... Off course the way the States acted is totally different but for me is only anohter indication that online poker is dead in long terms. The governments of other countries will also take measurements to either shut down a business which they find " illegal " or to otherwise legalise the pokerbusiness and take taxes. Both ways this will be the end for most of the pro pokerplayers on low - midstakes as these games in my opinion.

Second problem is they are introducing HYPERS , which attract most fish / gamblers and keep those players away from normal or turbo games. This also is very bad for good/winning pokerplayers.

It's possible they are introducing these to take as much rake as possible in the short term because they also see problems long term. Rakes in other games have gone up a litle also.

I feel sorry for all of the proplayers and sincerely hope i'm wrong. If not i hope most haven't lived a balla - life and put some of their profits aside so they can profit from this pokerexperience for a long time.

As said, i really hope i'm wrong.

Today i playd my first 10 normal games in 2011 ( due to loads of work ). In March i hope i get right back on to pace.

Stars gave me their welcome treat as i got screwed set over set in my first game of the day and in my third i had a Royal Flush not being paid off .. LOL

Well now i'm sure, it's rigged. Just kidding. Just reminds me of what a brutal game this can be, but i quite enjoyed today's gaems, although i lost a little.

Review and thoughts

Time to review 2010.

Personally it was a strange year , i had such a good time being home all year and watching my kid grow up, spending this incredibe time together was just amazing; I would do it all over again if i could. On the other hand we had to cope with 3 big losses in our lives , so it was a harsh year on that point of view. Just shows us all once again we can only live one day at a time , but we should also take full advantage of life all day. CARPE DIEM.

All these events led me to making some decisions. First of all i'm not going to be independent anymore ( i want to have time with the kiddo ) and second i'm not going to play poker full time ( various reasons : most importantly it's an age thing, plus the illegality in which poker still is situated in Belgium ). Plus i found this wonderfull job opportunity in the sales business, which with some luck should lead me to go live abroad in a few years ( big dream of mine )and it's now or never, if i don't take the job now the job is gone.

Pokerwise it's been very good. I played Betfair for the first part of the year and Stars for the second half. I made 10.4K $ which is very good considering my volume and hours of play i only put in. Played mostly 13$ 6max games , in which i really excelled to have a 17% ROI , thus a 2.2$ AVG profit. Zero losing months is also very good.
As for next year i won't put up too many goals as i will still have to see if i have any time left, beside work and the kiddo. I plan on buying a Dogue de Brodeaux in March, so that should take some of my time too. And then in summer i plan on buying a horse. So i will have less time, but need more money, guess i'll have to sleep less and play poker in the evening hours ...
I will continue to play the 13$ 6max games , mixing it up with some 25$ 6max games. And i will start playing more of the 12 and 18 man regulars too ( if i ever want to make it to the top of a SNG leaderboard on Stars this is the way to do it ).

18 man reg 6$ game

Hello everybody.

Decided to take a 18man reg game today to make a little change and go and say hello to the fishays that normally don't get to play with me ;-) No need to say i took the game down ( otherwise i wouldn't make a blog about it ofc ). Nah seriously, two free HH's for you all. Next year there won't be any HH's on this blog anymore, no more free poker lessons !!!! I have a few students now and it's not quite fair to them if i put hh's out here for free.

1st hand : we have KK here and get 3 calls, not optimal but it's 6$ game so i expect to get loose calls every hand.

Flop comes 5910 , two diamonds but nonetheless a good flop for us, so we decide to fire about 2/3 of the pot , not minding to take the pot down right here but not afraid to get it allin here neither.

Fishay globo2410 decides to call so we see a turn , a blank 3. Nice card for me to bet 2/3 of the pot again, not giving him the correct odds to call if he's on a draw.
Fishay calls again so what does he have ?? Let's take a look : he can have TP ( A10, K10, Q10,J10 ), he can have a draw like QJ or 87, or he has the flush draw , at this moment i don't even exclude a 9 with good kicker.
I think if he has a set or two pair here he raises me on turn.

River is J. Not a real bad card. The only hands that got there ( imo ) is 10J or KQdd. SO : he missed a lot of hands. I don't think there's a lot of value in betting here as any hand that will call here will normally have me beat. That's why we decide to check and we'll ok to take the pot on showdown but we also will defo call an AI.
Fishay goes AI , snapcall, and turns over A8 for missed FD.

So we get HU against another fishay who is way worse then me. We're quite deep so decide to play many flops and use our postflop skill to take this guy out instead of getting it in to quickly.

We limp with 22 and fishay raises to 600 OOP. We could go allin here but we have a 54% lead at best and could be facing a higher PP which has us crushed. We could fold as we are very unlikely to hit the flop and will certainly face a C bet from this aggro guy. But we could also call in position, if we hit a set we can take him out, AND we have chips ( like 90BB ). So we decide to see a flop.

Flop is 466 which is a very very good flop for my 22. If he didn't have a pair ( or maybe A6 ) we're still ahead. Vilain bets this flop ( as he will do 80% of time ), which could mean he has a pp or two high cards ( we can discount A6 as he would check there likely ). We decide to call and see what he does on turn.

Turn is 9. Not such a bad card again for my hand. This time he bets 800 in a 2850 pot giving me 4.6/1 to call. Is he bluffing here 18% of the time which means i would have good odds to call ?? Off course he is. We can just call and re evaluate on river.

River brings the 5 of diamonds, a complete blank. If i had him on turn i have him on river. He bets 1000 into 4450 pot. Which seems like a real valuebet giving me 5.4/1 to call. This ofc are odds i cannot refuse, so i call.

To be fair i call any bet here as i'm 75% sure i have the best hand. I mean with what hand would he follow that line ?? If he were a good player i would be scared he's using like 2 blocking bets to see a fairly cheap showdown with hands like 77 88, but he's not that good.

vilain turns over A10 and we take down a very nice pot.

Flopping FH and getting one - outered by Royal Flush on river. The guy checks the Royal flush lol !!!! Off course here it pays off but if the guy doesn't have AJ there i don't believe he gets paid as it makes no sense to valuebet an ace there. I will not say there's no collusion at Stars , but at least they keep an eye out for colluders and find them time to time. Received this mail this morning and was credited 35$. Didn't notice the collusion so was a pleasant surprise. Congrats Stars.

Decision time

Hi all,

Recently i had to make a big decision.

Untill recently i had a succesfull business which i sold like 2 years ago. At the same time i had my baby boy Illian born and decided to take a 2-year career-stop. So i've been home the last 2 years enjoying all fun parts of life ....

But from this week on my son is going to school, my wife started her major in lawschool in october so i have to do something usefull too i guess.

I tought about playing poker professionally for quite a long time. I made all the calculations and working like 50 hours a week should make me like 4K to 5K $ a month. That is playing 13$ 6max while having 17%-18% ROI over last 1K games. So i make like 2.2$ per game and play like 10 an hour. 22$ per hour x 50 hours = 1.1K per week. Include some bonusses and we have like 5K per month.

Ofc with the aim to make the step to the 23$ games and make like 10 - 12% there : 2.8$ per game. Would make like 6.5K per month including bonusses.

TAX FREE !!!!!!!

But :

Do i want to spend 50 hours a week on my computer playing poker ??
Will online poker continue to excist in its current form ??
And i had many other issues ....

So i have this job offer as an export manager, which will allow me to travel alot and meet all kind of interesting people. Well, i decided to take the offer and should be signing my contract next week. I would start the job 1st December and am really excited about it.

One important side note : if i were 20 years old i would certainly choose for the poker lifestyle and play like 80 hours a week ( which would make me like 10K a month )!!!! But in my situation i just feel i'm making the right choice.

I do plan on playing poker in the future. And will keep all my winnings aside for my little boy untill he turns 18. He will have a nice start in life with my pokerwinnings then lol.

Well, variance is always there. But always in another form. Ran pretty horrid today, losing just a little bit. Played 20 games and had all my luck combined into 1 game. It was a 13$ Regular game that was over in 39 minutes and just 49 hands. My average game where i get HU last between 55 - 65 minutes. So this was a real quickie i'd say.

Sometimes i hear ( or i read in blogs ) people say : poker is dead, there's too much info around, everybody knows how to play , bla bla bla ...

Yesterday i watched an episode of the WSOP coverage where 27 people were left and they played to 18. Fillipo Candio raises about 3.5 BB and calls a RR to 12B by CL ( who is actually reasonable tight ). Candio has 57s. Flop comes 566 , CL bets, Candio raises and the CL goes allin. Candio can easily fold here as he keeps like 50 BB behind. He obv makes the call ( i mean what does he beat here ???? ) and he he runs into AA but hits a 12% runner runner str8 ........ To get chipleader himself ...

Day 2 i saw him 6 bet ( very deep ) with KK , run into AA ( obv ) and hit K on river .... GG

Candio is on FT now. Obv he 's a good player but i mean , can't win without luck. And comparing him with other players left with last 18 he really looks like a fish.

So at every level you find fish....

Just had this call tonight in a 4$ MTT . I go allin when limped to me and i think this is a nice spot to add 20% to my stack, or possible have a flip when called ...

In this hand i'm up against an opponent on which i have following note : shark, but overplays AK and/or medium pair early stages

With this in mind we elect to put a serious 7X 3-bet in when raised to us , instead of the usual 3X 3-bet.

Why ? Various reasons :

1. Because we want to commit villain preflop and the normal 3-bet just doesn't do this. Pot would only be 900 preflop with me having 2.1K behind and villain 3K. i would need to bet every street and get called every street to get it allin with these stacks. I want to get it allin on 1 street or pre( ofc in this hand the flop came just to good to put it in on flop )

2. Because doubling up here means i have 5K leaving all others behind with 1.5K making me strong favourite to win.

3. Because of the note

4. Because many weak players play small pairs/ AK the way i play my AA here , they raise very big pre because they don't know how to play a flop , so they want to get it in pre or just take the pot pre. Villain being a good player may pick up on this and will hopefully not put me on AA with this kind of big reraise.

My first pokersite ever ( where i made loads of online pokerfriends ) has officially been replaced by BF2 which is part of the Ongame network. Out of curiousity i took a look yesterday and : OMG this software and layout really sucks lol. So this isn't a site i plan on playing anymore in the future. I will stick to Stars and open a new account on another site where i get a good deal and a nice signup bonus. Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

I just hope i stay in touch with all the guys i met there over the last 3 years and whom i really enjoyed playing/chatting with !!!

Still is unbeliavable how a site like BF who attracts lots of gamblers didn't succeed in building a nice pokersite. They fecked up bigtime by only rewarding superturbo players and focus on the gambling part for a 100%. They never took in account some people actually like to play a decent pokergame...

I'm gonna take a week non-poker. Been having this downswing on SNG's lately and thought yesterday i give a shot at cash. Well had 3 sets over sets ( two of whom hit on turn after allin on flop )against, had 2 times AA beaten preflop by AK and just had QQ beaten by 32 sooooted to leave me running 200$ below EV yet again. I'm so sick of it at the moment , but also proud i did stop instead of tilt, that i'm gonna take a week's break.

I'm looking into a business proposal and if this works out i will give up on poker completely. The donks getting rewarded and leaving me frustrated just isn't worth the extra cash. If it doesn't work out i will have to try and live amongst the donks ..... And cope with the swings and beats... !!!!

Due to all the changing laws in European countries it's becoming harder and harder to be a pro - grinder. Now in France PS has doubled the Rake ( they say due to TAX reasons ). French pokerplayers are stating , obviously , that a doubled rake is no longer beatable.

As i stated in my last mails i had some real sick shit happening to me the end of june. But since then lady luck has found me again, i control my game better and am not tilting anymore. Am up like 500$ in 3 sessions in July and have found another elak !!!!!! The leak is : i start playing with the intention of playing like 40-50 games and when i see on Scope i'm up like 140 after 15 i stop !!!!!!!!!!!! Hell what the feck. LOL. I guess it's kinda normal, i haven't ever been putting in as much games as i have done since a few weeks and i tend to be happy when i have a nice 150$ session and like to consolidate my profit. I'll get used to it too and then i won't stop at 150$, so be warned guys !!!

Winter time will for sure be easier to keep on playing, as for now, i'm going to make a MTB ride in the sunshine

It's crazy, today i made it to HU's of a 12$ 6 MAX regular game at Stars while we were still at blinds 15/30 ( second level ). Can you imagine 4 players going broke at this stage ??? The bubble was actually A10 versus A7 AIP for like 100BB each lol. It's sick.

Every game is played like a superturbo it feels to me.

Gonna up the aggresivity some more on flops and turns instead of preflop raising. You get played too much back at with hands like QJ or KJ , K10 AIP to make stealing very profitable in the middle stages.

Gonna play my draws much harder postflop and my premiums much faster preflop. AA - KK just get it allin and hope you get called by AJ , 88 or so in the first levels. No use in raising 6 - 8 BB if you get 4 callers is there ????

Free info for all out there lol.

Problem is i think at a certain moment when losing all flips or even all 70/30's you tend to change the game you play. You start playing too tight, you limp instead of raise, you call instead of shoving. It's natural. I think i've reached that point.

The two times i've been really aggresiv i've run into Aces twice ( me QQ and 66 ).

Then these 3 beauties just gor my confidence to a new low.

Been asked to do update , so here comes.

June has overall been a good pokermonth as i only started playing around the 12 th and still managed to make like 1K. Made a bet with my father if i make a certain amount before octobre he'll double it ... If i don't i pay him dinner. Good bet if u ask me !!! Still will be hard to achieve. I will not give the amount yet but will update and give more details further on, let's say i'm at 1K now ... ( and have a long way to go )

Last two days have been frustrating as i had to stop playing twice for a server restart at Stars. Was twice winning in the morning and both times lost when coming back in the afternoon. I think a server restart means they update the software so the fish would suckout ffs.

One thing i will have o take care off are the "tilt" moments. I try to solve them now by taking a break. But if u want to put in the volume as i want to the next 3 months u just simply can't afford to take too many breaks because of tilt. So i will just have to handle them.

Hi folks,

Haven't been updating this since i got back from the States, so here is the news. On the pokerfront all is going well, had my best month ever in April ( mixed up Hu's, 6 seats , 18 mans and 180 mans )and for the first time made an amount which can be called a decent income. Planned to do better in May and put in alot of volume early on. Sadly this hasn't happened so far as my dog died last week and i din't really felt like playing poker since and to be honestmy mindset is quite bad as it comes to poker since last week. Did manage to play some hu's games in the evening and am like 200$ up so far in May . Gonna make my comeback sunday and then i will put in alot of volume for the rest of the month. Want to clear some bonusses on Stars also so will have to put in the volume.
Have had an application to go and play for 6 months in the States with a pro from september on , but don't know if i will do it. Will update on this later.

I really was struggling with poker and all off the badbeats that come along with it. But thanks to alot of reading i have come to some very important conclusions which i will try to define in quotes i found :
* A grind is no fun, it's like you're being abused all day
* The best hand does not give you the divine right to win
* Eat variance and shit $$$$$
This has helped me alot to improve my mindset. I do not longer am very happy when i win a flip and am not sad when i lose a flip, or even 5 in a row. It's not about the result, it's about making the best decision EVERY TIME and if you do that , results WILL follow. You cannot control the cards, but you can control your decisions and you can control your volume. So i focus on that now.
Good month so far. And next week i'm going for a week Bootcamp ( in Dallas )with Bfizz11 who is one of the superstargrinders on Stars. Hopefully my game improves alot when i'm there. Will update when back.

As you see , i make the good decision as i probably had better hand then limper and wanted to play him but he folds? unfortunately for me a guy behind me wakes up with QQ and he also makes the good decision. The guy with A9 maybe thought he was prized in altho i doubt his decision there. And then ???? Then it's up to the gods and this time they decide to chose my side and let me hit a nice one-outer. And probably leave the QQ guy frustrated before his screen ....

Well well, it's typical poker again. January was the best month i had so far and all was falling to places. It seemed like all my hands held up, and more importantly always at the right time. It really feels like you're on top of the world and you deserve it because ure a winning player and most of the time you go in with the best hand and THE BEST HAND IS SUPPOSED TO WIN. Why capital letters ???????????? Because i hope the pokergods are reading cause this month it seems every time i have AA it gets cracked by 83 soooooted or so ......ARGH poker can be so frustrating. Today i started playing 15$ hu's again as i hope to run better then in the 18mans turbos. Well my last two games i lost AA v 66 aip and KK v 22 AIP ( he makes str8flush btw ). I was also playing a 11$ reg where we were 3 left and one guy was going allin way too much so i call him with AJ. He has K8 , flop KK8 , ARGHHHHHHHH. Stop for now and thx for reading this frustration post. My friend Wulfman says he sometimes lacks motivation due to the beats, well i understand him completely ...........

Hello, haven't been blogging, and worse, haven't been playing either... But ; i have a good reason for this , as i've been struggling with my eyes since the beginning of the year i really never got to play the hours i wanted so neither the volume because after 2 hours my head started to hurt like crazy. I went to the eyedoctor and now today my glasses have arrived !!!!!!! So i will be back after the weekend ( or sooner ) and i will be in good shape and ready to hit the tables hard, as well on Stars as on Betfair...Don 't know what to say about my challenge as i've lost two weeks for starters, and it allready being a tough one to start with ... But i'll try my best and see what it brings. When i'm back from holiday ( beginning april ) i will have two months to make a new challenge and to really really compete. Maybe poker will go even better now i'm looking as a nerd ............. looooooool .

My challenge started bad. more, from the minute i started the challenge i started to lose. I think it's normal the variance is higher in 18mans then it is in 6mans. So when i can live with the 200$ winning days i gotta learn living with the 100$ losing days i guess. After all , LONG TERM IS KING. Still have to work on my mental side , ban all emotions, winning or losing. After all ,the result doesn't matter, it's all about making the correct move or play !!!!!!

Yesterday was getting outdrawn on flops so when i got QQ first hand UTG i elected to jam them in, hoping for a call from a lower pair or from Aj or so ( which often happens in these 6$ games ) , but as i say ,when it's not your day , it isn't .....

What are the odds on this happening ??

Hello, back for an update on how the month was ( i'm having a 3 day break now as i have many obligations and as i have reached a mentally important target ). The month was actually very good as i kept on beating the 6$ 18mans real hard. Profit for the month is about 1400$ , which is actually very good as i only played like 580 games. My challenge this year was to make about 20K $ , so i will try to have 5K when i leave for a family visit to the south on 27th march. I will certainly put in more volume once i've seen the eyedoctor. My plan to move to stars did me good for many reasons ; i play a different type of SNG which gave me renewed interest in the game, i have no chat on because i don't know anybody there so i can focus on the game and 6 table, anyway it did me good. The last months when i went to BF site i didn't go to play and make money in the first place, i went to look for my online friends and chat... Now i only go there to chat with them and i go to make money on a different site, which keeps things well separated and is much better.Otherwise nothing special except this : i had made contact with an online pro who was looking for students and i was notified i was accepted. Suddenly, due to too many applications, he put me on a waiting list which i refused as i hate the idea of being put on a waiting list. Still i am disappointed as i saw this as a great opportunity to improve my game and really had the intention to work hard. I hope my results prove me right and i don't go busto now lol. Up to the 5K !!!!!!!

Well well, aslong time said, i finally started playing seriously on Stars. 7 Tabling the 6$ 18 mans tournies. The plan was to play 50/60 a day for 5 days a week to reduce the variance. It started off really well, made like 1K $ in the first 14 days but then the problem begins. My eyes get tired of multitabling and my head starts to hurt, ffssssssssssssssssss.............
So i made an appointment with the eye doctor beginning february hoping glasses help. I also think about buyin a projector so i can play on a big screen and maybe 9table without problems.
It would really suck if i should stop this experiment due to health problems as for sure there's loads of money to be made. The 1K $ i made in these 2 weeks i made in not playing more then 4 hours a day for 5 days a week, so 2K $ for a parttime job suits me well for the time being.
Also had a really 20 game hot run this week that would have made me 580 points for low orbit leaderboard if it wasn't i had no more blocks left. Damn would have been 500 extra beautifull $$$$. But i'm sure one day i will hit the low or high orbit real hard , just a matter of time and getting lucky at the right time.
The standard is so bad it's unreal, A10 is really the nuts, they never look at blinds or stacksizes ....
When eyeproblems are over ( hopefully soon ) i will mix in some 15$ games , as the winning players i spot at 6$ do also win at 15$ so hope the same counts for me. For the moment i have 30% roi in the 6$ games, haven't seen higher yet. Maybe it's not really realistic although i don't feel like i'm running so so so hot.
Anyway can't complain resultswise as 1K $ is very good.

2009 summary - 2010 goals

Well 2009 has been a good year pokerwise. Started off rocketwise and then had a fallback in the summer to get better again near the end of the year. I guess it's due to variance. So i decided in 2010 i will beat the variance and play a huge amount of games in relation to what i normally play. For me this means putting in more more more hours. I normally 4-5 table and want to increase this also to 8-10. At the moment i'm playing the 18man 6$ games at Stars and i'm beating them hard at the moment. Once january ends i will have a bigger sample to se if i still beat them as hard as i do now and if that's the case i will move up to 18mans 16$. It's not a little jump from 6$ to 16$ but i'm used to playing 11 -15 $ games at Betfair so it's still in my comfort zone.

I have set myself some goals for 2010 pokerwise and it's the first time i do that , i really felt i needed it as otherwise you don't really care for a 6$ game after a while. So : i made GOALS !!!!!!!!! I will not post them yet but they are in my office and when i see a goal, i want to make it , so that's good.

Business wise i don't know what's going to happen. i'm still doing my stage for work , but i don't need to put in any hours in this office i work now. So maybe i change office in march - april if the poker doens't work out or bores me. The original plan was to start my own office around september but with the economy being as it is i don't reallt feel the urge to invest half of what i own/worked for in an insecure economy where it seems like the government only helps the ones who don't work/are illegal/have no good intentions instead of encouraging willing people like me. So if i can make a reasonable living out of poker without touching my savings and without paying 1euro in taxes i feel really comfortable for the time-being. I've fully paid off my mortgage last year and i mean it's the best thing i've ever did in my life , financially. It relieves me of any pressure and i'm able to take every decision i want now. I've been home for 1 1/2 years now and watched my kid grow up which was magnificent , and my wife is pregnant again so i might do it all over again lol , playing poker and earning my monthly needed money ;-)

Well i came to the conclusion i can't beat 10$ hu's on Stars. It's pure push push push bluff catch bluff catch. Maybe higher limits they play more seriously , i don't know. So today decided no longer to play hu's for a while. Gonna focus on other games. And also i decided to play seriously. It's been a while i'm running so bad now i start to wonder if it's not me playing worse then before, i think you can't blame it on variance for ages .............. That's what i thought :

This last hand says it all. Call with A6 there, yeah right , Call with AJ after two all inns, yeah right ure surely ahead !!! I know he has chips to call but still....

Still as we always say, i should be glad they call , but i'm gonna be more glad once they stop hitting ffs !!!!!!

Well , i won't bother you, or myself with the rest of the exit hands but they're all quite like this. Hope this turns around soon and i will be able to win the important 70/30s again, and maybe some flips too now and then .....

November conclusion

Well pokerwise and otherwise it's been a strange month for me. First the poker summary : i always loved to play mtt's but somehow didn't get to play much of them lately . Well in November that's changed, and how. I played about 30 , won 4 and cashed in another 9. This for a total profit of 480$ in mtt. I also experimented a little in cash which won me 60$ ( playing 0.05/0.10 )and a 60$ in RB makes a total of 600$ won this month. You're right : where's the SNG profit ??? Well i managed to win 1.2$ in November but i WILL NOT takes these in my summary lol. That said , i managed to lose 160$ in HU's sng , first time i have a monthly loss in that ....

Anyway ; we don't really care where the profit comes from, as long as we make profit !!!!!!!!!

Otherwise also strange month as i said. I am currently working in a real estate agency as i have to for a year before i am able to start my own business ( in Belgium it's a protected profession ) and last week i had a discussion with my boss. I only get to do the dirty jobs, which is maybe normal at this stage, but i don't like it anyway. So i told her. We came to the conclusion maybe it's better for me to look for another place , so i will do after newyear.

Don't know if i will be playing much in december as for me this is really family month. I lost my mum 6 years ago ( today ) and since then i try to take more time for my precious ones instead of working full time. Which means i play more with the kid, go on restaurant with the lady, have friends come over and go to my dad in France the last week of December. So poker will be on second/third/fourth plan this month.

This weekend my son ( 19 months old )had his elbow dislocated so we had to rush to the emergency. Ofc he was in a lot of pain and his mother in total panic. But they just put it back in place and it was over right away... If your kid is hurt, you put every badbeat in perspective right away i must say ........................

Back on track in January !!!!!!!!!!!

MTT hot streak - SNG cold run

Only thing that's going at the moment are the mtt's i play. ROI must be huge this month. Plan on making detailed recordings of how much i win/lose in each discipline from next month on . That's cash, sng and mtt all apart. Never done that before and always thought my roi is biggest in sng but this hot run in mtt is making me doubt that. Ofc for the mtt part, it's not good to start recording after u won 3 out of last 10 you played i guess ....

Started playing more and more on Stars too, but i think i made a mistake in playing to low stakes to get to know the software better. The beats you get at 2.2$ 180mans are just unreal. Always thought BF was bad but this is way worse. OFC at 2.2$ they play any two cards at any level no matter howmuch you raise preflop so you can never put them on a hand and most certainly not push them off second pair. I will have to adapt my game i think. i have 200$ on that account, if i ever lose them i never go back there and embrace Bf as it was the most beautifull girl in the world lol.

Super turbo lottery ??

Analysed my superturbo mtt win from yesterday. Off course i must say that superturbo's are more a lottery then regular where blinds increase every 15 minutes, pure logic. But it isn't always as lottery as it seems.

Keyhands from yesterday :

1/ i have 1010 in LP with 1200 stack , blinds 100/200. I push, get called by QQ in SB, i suck out.
2/ i have 10dJd in LP with 1400 stack , blinds 200/400 , shortie pushes for 700 , i go over top , get called by AA on button. Flop 2 pair and get nice stack.3/
3/ i manage to steal blinds a few times to keep a good stack

Part 1 = twice lucky and some good steals. Standard stuff i'd say.

4/We are about 25 left ( 18 paid ) and i have 3500 chips, blinds 600/1200. UTG goes allin for 2000. I am sat UTG +2 with 77. Decision time. First of all , what does this guy have. OBV any pair will do, as will A-rag of 2 paints. So against him i have good odds to call. BUT : I take a good look at stacks behind me and see noone has more then 4K and BB only has 2.6K. As he allready invested 1200 it's only 800 for him to call the allin. So really i need to isolate the UTG. BUT i only have 3.5K , so how can i isolate ?? I clearly can't push any decent hand off this spot. If i push allin, it takes the BB 2.3K to call in a 9K pot .... That's 4/1 which makes it a almost must-call if he has anything.
I chose to fold, maintain my stack, hope for a quick bubble so i get a new table with a little bit of fold equity left when i push. So ; fold 77.
As turns out, very good decision : UTG shows 55 , BB called with A10 ; Ace hits flop. And i am glad i laid down 77 in this spot. I am sure 90% of players go allin there.
5/Bubble is gone and i get Qs9s UTG+1 with 2.5BB , i look at BB and he has like 300 left after putting in his blinds. So he will be obliged to call. I have him covered and hope for the rest to fold so i can isolate and i have like a 55/45 shot v BB. As planned all fold and BB calls with Q4. I double up.
6/Hand after i get KK UTG , which i obv push. 2 callers , flop KQQ and i'm chipleader when i triple up.
7/ Quick look at payout structure and i see very topheavy payout, so we play for top3now.
8/ We get to 3 left, blinds very high. I get 94 in BB ( blinds 10K/20K ), i have 39K left after paying BB, which means if i fold in this spot i have no more folding equity , nada... So when SB makes the expected push, i put him on anytwo and decide to call with any two as if i win i take him out and have a good shot at first which pays 300. And if i fold i am clearly shortie and good favourite for 3rd which pays 119. So i call, he shows A10. I hit 9 on flop, him ace on turn and me another 9 on river.
9/ HU's. I had seen this guy being reasonable tight. Thus he folds twice when being SB. I say , well i will try and steal then. I limp in SB , he checks. I c bet flop with complete air. He folds and i have 2/1 chiplead. Hand after he pushes allin, i get 59 and as i have him covered i decide to call. If i hit, i win. If i miss i push allin hand after.
I hit and i win.

OBV much luck , but still i really like my 77 fold as my analyse was spot on and everything happened as i though it would. If i call i'm out there in 25th. I'm sure if the guy who finished second gets 49 in the spot i did when SB put me allin, he would have folded. I played for first there, not scared and got rewarded.

Conclusion : superturbo are lottery, but some are better at these lottery-games then others. If u don't agree, check out Feeeefeee on sharscope on betfair account....

Nice win today in MTT. Running good in these lately, makes up for running bad in SNG i guess. Last three times i made a nice cash in MTT i finished second taking a 30/70 to go out. Today i finally delivered a 70/30 to win. Last hand i have 59 and he pushes but it's blinds 10K/20K and it's just another 19K to call, leaving me with 40K if i lose. He shows 69 , grrrrrr. Nice flop 585 , and another 5 on river gives me four of a kind to finish in style lol.

Been playing more on Stars lately due to the low traffic on betfair. It takes a little to adapt as it seems on Stars they are far more willing to gamble at a certain time ( for sure on bubble ) so you have to get lucky at times and maybe narrow a little my pushing range and widen a little my calling range. Still to see. Am playing the 13$ 6packs now and running at about 17% ROI , which seems good but as yesterday i had a vey bad losing 7 out of 9 70/30s on bubble i think i should manage to get 20% ROI after a good sample of games. What i also find interesting is the fact you see way more winning players and way more big fishes then on betfair. Either the players are good or very bad. On Betfair many lose like 5% , on Stars many lose 20 - 25% ....

Poker is strange , frustrating, funny , ............. Yesterday, as said, all went wrong, lost twice with a FH to a bigger FH where they hit 3 outer on river when both committed, ran with AA into K8s who calls 5BB raise on bubble, hits his FD and hits flush on turn when he pushes allin for 35BB, anyway way too much bad luck to tell all , and i'm sure ure not interested.

Was down 65$ , which ofc is far from a drama, but for me it is a bad day. When my wife was feeding the baby and i wanted to play a turbo MTT on BF . I misregistered and found myself in a 2$ superturbo omaha MTT ffs. So i decide to play all hands. First hand a guy raises and we are 4 to call. I hit open end Str8 draw and decide to call his C bet. I hit my Str8 on turn and have the nuts with a Q high FD going with it, so i decide to CR and get all the chips in. As thought he bets pot again , i CR for the rest and he calls with a set of jacks and only the river to come. OFC the river k paires the board and i lose another 75/25% when played to perfection. Left me so frustrated i went allin with my remaining 160 chips, doubled up 4 times in a row to get me back to starting stack. Went on to win the tourney ( 46 players ) for fecking 30$ ( which cut my losses in half , good ). But i had another session planned for the evening but couldn't bring myself to it anymore after this ridiculous rollercoaster of anger , luck, relief , joy........ Moral : get it in 75/25 , lose and the gods will be with you the rest of the tourney lol.

Will post one HH from yesterday which i must say i quite enjoyed and it made a losing day still worth remembering. Checking the nuts 3 times and getting rewarded 3 times ;-)

October summary

Well the month went well , made like 1100$ , betfair and stars account accumulated. Should be like this every month. altho since a few days my luck has turned around and my play is about the worst in months; I'm gettting so much suckout it's getting to me, i can't believe they luckboxed another 3-4 outer and i pay them off. I pay them off way too much last two days , and it has to be the other way around. I'm not the fish, they are !!!!!!!!!!! So i will have to take a days break or so , otherwise it's going to affect me for a longer period. Lost 75$ today, let's say first30 due to nasty suckouts or coolers ( had KK v AA twice , QQ v AA , QQ v KQ lost preflop ) and last 45$ combination of suckout-unbelieve-tilt-paying off. So will stop for the day as it's not getting any better, i can feel it. Next week we go to normandie for a few days, should do me good, do should also do my game some good.

Hope to jump up a level when i get back. But must say ; it's not the first time i'm saying this and the same thing has happened to me everytime i say this ; i get beat after beat and it gets my confidence down and i start playing bad. Work on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After all, nice month october ( 4th largest monthly win on bf ) so can't complain.

6K is reached on scope ( Betfair account ) , so i'm due to step up a level. Next week though we're going away for a few days to Normandie and will wait till i'm back to take it a level higher. Will start first with the 20$ HU's superturbo and the 20 $ regular 6 and 9 seats. Will stay in 12$ for the turbo's at the moment and first see what my thoughts are about the skill at the 20$ level. If i think it's not very much better then 12 , then i change turbo's too.

Started playing a little on stars again too as during the day there's not very much traffic on betfair and too many regs. Decided not to play turbo's on stars but only regs 12 and 18 man sng. So far my roi in these is 87% and 29% . That's for 6$ games. If i'm more used to playing the software i will step up to 12$ games too.

Am on a good run , played one of the new superturbo's MTT on betfair yesterday night and finished 2nd/154 . Could have won as had a flip versus second in chips whil is had him nicely covered, but lost with AK v 66. There were 2 other guys in with 1BB left and this guy calls allin with 66 for 11BB. If he goes out he has 70$ instead of 200$ he has for a certain second if he passes preflop. Proves once more some just don't get it. He went on to win 3 more flips in a row to beat me hu's tho, so i'm just satisfied with the 200$....

May be running well, but i think the biggest change to some months ago is i'm playing better . Because i still get the worst beats imaginable ( this is bubble of 12 man on stars ) :

OK . Think i 'm back. Having a good run at the moment. Both hitting more hands and playing more solid. Am on a 500$ upswing in 150 games or so , which is pretty good at 9 - 12$ games. This only confirms what i allready stated in my earlier post : if u want to make a monthly profit u should play at least 1K sng's per month. Otherwise you will always hit some losing months. Decided to not longer withdraw any money from my account. I don't really need it and want to do some proper BRM and move up a stake. I know i will encounter more grinders there but only need to get half the ROI i have now to equal the profit. Plus RB will be higher so profit should be higher. The moment i hit 6K on scope i will move up. Will not look back untill i hit 5K . Hopefully will never look back lol.

Poker is a strange psychological game : all the winning players i know seem to have it so hard/are so frustrated when the fish hit a 20/80% shot. That includes me, i'm also too results orientated. From now on i will work hard on that as it's my biggest leak. We should be happy they stick it in 20/80 ffs !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still Variance or me ?

I don't know what's happening but everything seems to go wrong at the moment. I lose every 70/30 i play, so i won't say how many 50/50s i lose. Cannot win a game at the moment.

Am i just on a terrible swing of luck ?

I think it's a mix of everything so from now on i will only play regular games and 6pack turbo's. No more Hu's superturbo where i wait for AK to lose to another 62 allin. No more D2N where i wait for QQ to another K2 allin. I need to get out of this swing and the only way i see me doing this is by playing slowpaced games where skill comes more into play then blindless aggression/luck.

Yesterday i play a normal HU4s game , first hand i get AQ in pos , i raise he calls preflop 3BB. Flop comes AQ10 all spades. He checks, i elect to check behind, not build a too big pot with all these draws and see turncard first. Turn is another Q. I therefor have AAAQQ. He bets turn , i raise to build pot, he gets it allin. i ofc snapcall to see a flopped Royal Flush. Good game, ty vm.

Can it get any worse ??

Tilted of some more after this hand. not pissed about the way he played or so, just about the immense coolers i'm getting at the moment . So sick this game.

Anyway, still hanging in there. We'll see in a while. If profit doesn't come back i stop for sure as it's too frustrating. I hear many regs having probs and stopping at the moment. Think it's due to the fact that the game is more and more evolving to a gambling game. They stick it in with anytwo any level any position certainly at my levels ). Everybody says that's what u want them to do but i don't agree , i want flops, i want them to fold sometimes when i raise. All i want is to minimize gambling and for the moment this isn't working. So first return to reg games . And then we'll see.

Variance and how to deal with it

I think this is one of the hardest things in poker, how to deal with variance. I think for me at the moment it's a big problem as i don't play enough games to beat the variance in a short period. I have 4.5K games on Sharkscope and last 1K i am having a breakeven strech. Off course this is not dramatic, but if you're used to winning it's no fun !!!!! I was running at 15% ROI after 3.5K games which was, in hindside, huge as half of my games are heads up matches.

As said, the real problem is that i only play 200-300 games a month, so if i'm on a bad run of 1K games for me that means 3/5 months , which is far too long.

So an important lesson is : if you ever want to beat the variance, or play more professional, play more games. When i look a the real SNG grinders like Gnasher, Rivva rat, Bigbanker, MrKangaroo, Arbboy , they all play loads.......I would say 1K a month is a minimum.

But from now on i look at it in this way : i win money everytime i register for a game, variance or not. I have 12% ROI on 11$ average limit, so that means i win 1.32$ per game in long term.

Also decided that once i reach 10K$ profit i will only play 20$ games from there on. Must try it once and it will certainly increase rakeback.

Day before yesterday had a bounty for taking out Imper1um in a 25$SNG , didn't receive it yet, mailed betfair and they say they have no details of the game, always problems with their stupid helpdesk .......

Hi poker community. I'm Entabeni and i started playing poker like 2 years ago. By making this Blog i hope i get to know interesting poker players. I will be publishing my results as well as thoughts on poker, plays, or life in general.

These 2 years i've been playing on Betfair , mostly heads up , 6 pack turbo and MTT. I started at 5$ games and am currently playing 9$ to 25$ games. My bankroll is now 9147$.

Well that's for a short first message. Sorry if my English isn't perfect , it is not my first language.
